Co-founder A Rocha
Peter Harris
Peter and his late wife Miranda founded A Rocha, a family of conservation organizations now working in over 25 countries working together to live out God’s calling to care for creation, in 1983. The A Rocha story is told in Peter’s books, Under the Bright Wings and Kingfisher’s Fire. A Cambridge graduate and Anglican minister, Peter has served as Adjunct Faculty at Regent College, Vancouver and Au Sable Institute, Michigan. In his retirement, he continues to serve A Rocha as a volunteer, developing ways to create jobs and wealth that improve the environment instead of overexploiting it. In 2019, Peter and Miranda were in a horrific road accident in South Africa, which she did not survive, and which he has since spoken about in lectures and on film.
Peter has chosen to dedicate the Freestarter Award to the Harris-Naylor Scholarship Fund at A Rocha International. Established in memory of Miranda Harris, Chris Naylor, and Susanna Naylor, the scholarship supports emerging Christian conservation leaders from around the world by providing access to training and leadership development opportunities.

“Peter Harris is a persistent and most convincing witness that the Christ who saves and the Christ who creates are one and the same Christ, that the care and celebration of creation is essential to a full evangelical witness of the Gospel of salvation.”

Each quarter, The Goble Family Foundation honors a FreestarterTM with a financial donation of $10,000
— plus a whole lot of love. If you see a FreestarterTM here, it’s because we deeply believe in what they are doing. We hope you, too, will be inspired by their bravery, out of the box thinking, trail blazing, perhaps sometimes wacky, work and ideas. And, perhaps, even choose to join them.
To nominate a FreestarterTM in your life, please fill out the nomination form below. Please note the restrictions of the Goble Family Foundation’s mission to provide educational opportunities, ethical storytelling and human rights through our grants.
